Your new role as a Sysco people manager is an important one, in many ways. One of your new responsibilities will be managing your associates’ data in Workday. Accurate associate data is key to Sysco being able to manage our resources, and ultimately our business. Because you’re closest to your associates and are the most meaningful part of their relationship with Sysco, you’ll be responsible for making sure information about them is kept up to date.

Beginning the Backfill Process Before a Termination

While you cannot hire someone into a position that has an active associate in it, you can start the job requisition process as soon as you have entered a future termination date (such as when an associate gives notice or has an upcoming retirement) and ensured that overlap was selected. Additionally this will allow for a temporary period in which the incoming and outgoing incumbents’ employment may overlap. To get started, search "Create a Job Requisition” in Workday, then select the “for Existing Position” option. Then choose the departing associate. Overlap Requires a Termination or Job Change

While you can initiate a job requisition on any position, you can only hire and overlap an associate AFTER a termination or job change has been initiated. You cannot overlap with a new associate until the current associate has been scheduled to vacate the position through a termination, promotion/demotion, or transfer. Don’t Terminate Transferring Associates

Is one of your associates transferring to another OpCo? Don’t terminate them! The Talent Acquisition or HR Data team will handle all the necessary changes. See the Position Management job aid for more information about transfers.

Position Availability Dates

When you create a new position, you will select the date you want the position to become available. If you choose a future date, be mindful that a job requisition cannot be opened until the availability date you selected. See the Position Management job aid to learn more about creating positions.

Closing a Job Requisition without Closing the Position

Did you know you can close a job requisition without having to close the position? Simply go to the My Open Job Requisitions worklet and choose the requisition that needs to be closed. Then click the Actions button and select Close Requisition. The process will then be sent to your TAP for approval.
